New Delhi: “Meta takes aim at Twitter with the launch of rival app Threads”.
Even as Meta managed to earn such headlines after it announced the launch of Threads on Wednesday, Twitter owner Elon Musk had the last laugh within the first 24 hours.
Meta unveiled Threads to compete with Twitter, targeting users looking for an alternative to the social media platform owned and frequently changed by Musk.
On Thursday afternoon (EST) or early Friday (IST), Musk was caught trolling Meta when he wrote “Metaphorically too” while responding to a Tweet that said, “Meta's new app logo looks like a tapeworm” insinuating that the “bird” in twitter logo will eat up the “worm” like Thread logo.
Threads is billed as a text-based version of Meta's photo-sharing app Instagram that the company says provides "a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations."
Facebook-parent Meta's Threads is being seen as a formidable rival to Twitter. The app has passed 10 million sign-ups in the first seven hours of launch, Zuckerberg shared on his verified Threads account.
Threads users can post up to 500 characters and share links, photos and videos for up to 5 minutes.
