New Delhi: Shubman Gill on Wednesday hit his first double century in ODIs against New Zealand. Gill took 145 balls to complete 200 runs with 19 4s and 8 6s.
The youngest batsman to hit double century, Gill completed 200 with three back-to-back sixes.
He lost his wicket at 208 runs.
Powered by Gill's double century, India put up a target of 350 runs against New Zealand.
No other India batter crossed 35 runs.
Gill hit the first 50 runs off 52 balls, a century off 87 balls, 100-150 in 35 balls, and the 150 to 200 in just 23 balls. The second 100 came in just 58 balls.
Earlier, he became the fastest Indian to complete 1000 runs in ODIs as he reached the mark in 19 innings, surpassing the likes of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.
Gill, who made his ODI debut in January 2019, also became the joint second-fastest to 1000 runs in terms of innings alongside Imam Ul Haq of Pakistan. Fakhar Zaman had crossed 1000 runs in 18 innings.
Gill's India teammates Kohli and Dhawan, who he has replaced in the team, had completed 1000 runs in 24 innings.
The 23-year-old achieved the feat in the first ODI against New Zealand after getting to his second straight ODI century.
