The American businessman has been a controversial figure for many years, with critics on both the left and the right accusing him of various misdeeds, from manipulating currencies to using his wealth to influence politics.

Ironically, such a figure is worried about India, which is the world’s largest democracy.

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1930, Soros’ net worth is $8 bn. His family was Jewish, and they survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary by using false identities and hiding their Jewish heritage. After the war, Soros emigrated to England, where he attended the London School of Economics. He later moved to the United States and began working as a stock trader, eventually founding his own investment firm, Soros Fund Management.

Soros has been involved in India through his Open Society Foundations, which have supported a variety of initiatives to promote democracy, human rights, and social justice. The Open Society Foundations have provided funding to a variety of civil society organizations in India, including those that promote women's rights, LGBTQ rights, and the rights of religious minorities.

Soros's involvement in India has also been controversial. In 2010, the Indian government accused Soros of funding protests against the construction of a nuclear power plant in the state of Tamil Nadu. The government alleged that Soros's Open Society Foundations were funding NGOs that were protesting against the plant, which was being built with Russian assistance. The government argued that the protests were being fueled by foreign interests, including Soros, who wanted to undermine India's energy security.

In 2016, the Indian government placed the Open Society Foundations on a list of organisations that were not eligible to receive foreign funding. The government accused the Open Society Foundations of working against India's national interests and promoting cultural and religious intolerance. The move was widely criticized by civil society organizations, who argued that the government was trying to silence dissent and undermine the work of NGOs in the country.

Why is George Soros against Narendra Modi?

George Soros has been a vocal critic of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. Soros has accused Modi of promoting a "Hindu nationalist" agenda and undermining India's secular traditions. Soros has also criticised Modi's economic policies, which he argues have favored the wealthy at the expense of the poor.

One of the main reasons why Soros has been critical of Modi is his government's treatment of religious minorities, particularly Muslims. Modi's government has been accused of promoting a Hindu nationalist agenda and discriminating against Muslims. Soros has argued that this has led to increased social tension and instability in India.

Soros has called for more investment in education, health care, and social services to improve the lives of ordinary Indians.

How George Soros destabilise governments?

Soros has also been accused of destabilising governments by funding political movements and protests. Soros has been accused of promoting regime change in countries such as Ukraine, Georgia, and Serbia by funding NGOs and political movements that are critical of the existing governments.

Soros’ latest statement against India and PM Modi validates the fact that he undermined democracy by using his wealth to influence political outcomes.
