New Delhi: Devendra Fadnavis is expected to stake claim to form government after Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation as Maharashtra Chief Minister.
His announcement came minutes after the Supreme Court refused to stay Maharashtra Governor's direction to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government to take a floor test in the Assembly on Thursday.
BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had on Tuesday night met the governor and requested him to ask the Thackeray-led government to prove its majority in the Assembly, claiming that the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress coalition dispensation seemed to be in minority as 39 Sena MLAs who belong to the Shinde faction have said they do not support it.
With Fadnavis staking claim, the political drama over the last one week is expected to end soon.
On 23 November 2019, Fadnavis formed a government with the help of Ajit Pawar of NCP; however, this government only lasted for a few days after Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress formed MVA government.
