New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has overhauled the new tariff order (NTO) after multiple consultations with stakeholders including an open house discussion, which was conducted on September 8.
The sources at the regulator told NewsDrum that the much-awaited NTO has been sent to the Directorate of Printing and Directorate of Publishing for publication in the Gazette of India.
The amended NTO is expected to address the concerns of all the stakeholders and be a win-win situation for both broadcasters and distributors, TRAI sources said.
On the other hand, broadcasters and cable operators are expecting that the amended NTO will end their 3-year-long woes that started in December 2019 with the implementation of the new tariff order.
The new tariff order implemented in December 2019 resulted in loss of revenue and subscribers for pay broadcasters, cable and DTH operators.
Sources told NewsDrum that the regulator has found a middle ground on sticky points of bouquet formation and MRPs of the channels.
