'The F Word': Aadyam Theatre's satire on dysfunctional families to be staged on June 17

New Delhi: "The F Word", a satirical take on the bittersweet dynamics of a dysfunctional family, will be staged here at the Little Theatre Group (LTG) Auditorium on June 17-18.

Directed by writer-actor-director Akarsh Khurana, "The F Word" will portray "raw and complex emotions" within a family that is confronting its past and present while the members grapple with the fragility of their relationships.

The play follows Chetan, a high school teacher, and his estranged sister, Unnati, a psychologist, in their quest to understand their parents’ tangled marriage.

They unwittingly open a Pandora’s box of family secrets swept under the rug for years as they try to navigate a conversation which is long overdue.

This play will feature a cast of theatre veterans including Akash Khurana as the father, Siddharth Kumar as Chetan, Malaika Shenoy as Unnati, and Garima Yajnik as a friendly restaurant owner.

Talking about his latest production, Khurana said that "The F Word" is a deeply personal and prolonged conversation about parents, children, marriage, nostalgia and communication.

“Dysfunctional families have always fascinated me. In fact, even though I get along well with my father, who is acting in the play, I have noticed a common theme of daddy issues in plenty of my work. I think deeply personal conflict between relatives can be mined for both comedy and pathos.

"And this time, with Aadyam showcasing smaller productions where scale and razzmatazz are no longer a priority, I could delve deep into a character-driven conversation piece. It is darkly comic and surprisingly relatable, or so we hope. If it isn’t, well, who said family outings have to be fun?" he said.

The second run of the shows will be performed at Mumbai’s Experimental Theatre at NCPA on June 24 and 25.
