Tax exemption, bicycles to girl students among women-centric initiatives pledged by BJP in its MCD poll manifesto
New Delhi, Nov 25 (PTI) Setting up 50 Annapurna kitchens run by women, additional exemption of five per cent in property tax to them and free cycles to girl students -- these are some of the women-centric initiatives pledged by the Delhi BJP if it comes to power in the civic body polls again.
Delhi BJP's 12-point Municipal Corporation of Delhi poll manifesto titled 'Sankalp Patra', promising flats to slum dwellers, 1,000 permanent Chhath ghats, cow shelters and development of "happiness" areas, was released by party leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal here on Friday.
In the manifesto, the party has listed out its women-centric initiatives that include providing an additional exemption of five per cent in the property tax from the existing 15 per cent for properties completely owned by women.
The party has promised to ensure self-employment opportunities, quality health facilities and dignified life to women.
Under its plans to empower women, the party has proposed to set up 50 'Annapurna Rasoi' in Delhi run by women in which citizens will get food at Rs 5.
There are also plans to provide monthly scholarships to meritorious girl students of MCD-run schools for higher education after class 5.
"We will provide free cycles to meritorious girl students of class V studying in MCD-run schools. We will increase the marriage grant from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 for the daughters of poor widows.
"We will encourage setting up of more self-employment training centres like 'Garima Griha' set up in Kirti Nagar for women," reads the party manifesto.
The party said it will organize self-defence classes for women in every ward and will initiate the PM Kanya Yojana for the daughters of poor families who are born in the maternity centre run by the MCD.
Under the scheme, Rs 5000 will be deposited in the name of the girl child so that after attaining 18 years of age, she will receive Rs 50,000.
The Delhi BJP said it has established 130 women's health and maternity centres.
"In the next five years, we will ensure state-of-the-art facilities in these centres and will establish PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras in them," it said.
The manifesto has also promised to establish Pink Toilets and Feeding rooms around all markets and public places within the capital.
The Delhi State Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union has been running a campaign to boycott the BJP and AAP in the MCD polls.
Amid this boycott campaign, the party has promised to work in the direction of increasing the honorarium of Anganwadi women attached to the MCD health centres.
The Delhi government has been saying that it is paying the country's highest amount of honorarium and allowances to Anganwadi workers and helpers in the capital.
The BJP said it will initiate free health checkup facilities for women in slum and JJ clusters and will continue distributing free iron and vitamin tablets to women.
"We have been serving the people of Delhi by running nine hospitals, 130 women health centres, maternity homes, 123 dispensaries and mobile health vans. We will expand our services under the PPP model," it added.
The party said they have received more than 1.5 lakh suggestions for the manifesto. PTI SLB TDS TDS
