Rahul Gandhi visits Wayanad for the first time after disqualification

New Delhi: Congress leader and disqualified MP Rahul Gandhi will visit Wayanad in Kerala, his parliamentary constituency, for the first time after his disqualification.

His sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will accompany him.

Both the leaders will participate in a public contact programme at 3.30 pm at SKMJ School in Kalpetta.

At 4 pm, Gandhi will address a public rally in Kalpetta.

The Election Commission on March 29 said there was no hurry to declare a byelection to the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.

The vacancy in the Wayanad parliamentary party was notified on March 23 this year and as per the law, a bypoll has to be conducted within six months.

If the remainder of the term was less than one year, then the election will not be held.

In the case of Wayanad, the remainder of the term is more than a year.
