New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a secret visit to White House during his visit to the United States ahead of the state visit of prime minister Narendra Modi, a report in Economic Times said Thursday.
ET’s senior journalist Seema Sirohi in her column wrote that Gandhi reportedly also went to White House.
“The meetings were kept under wraps for some strange reason. But the Joe Biden administration clearly didn’t shut the door on an opposition leader. Why should it?” wrote Sirohi.
Gandhi landed in San Francisco on May 30 for a three-city US tour during which he interacted with the Indian diaspora and met American lawmakers.
He wrapped up his US visit on June 5.
Prime Minister Modi will embark on his first state visit to the US at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden in June. The US president and the First Lady will also host Modi at a state dinner on June 22.
