New Delhi: Former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Veer Bhumi and paid floral tribute on his 78th birth anniversary.
India's youngest prime minister, Rahul Gandhi held office during 1984-89, the last time the Congress had a majority in Lok Sabha.
He was assassinated by a LTTE suicide bomber in 1991.
Rahul Gandhi in his tweet said that he will try to fulfill the dreams of his father for the country.
Earlier, the Congress party paid tribute to the former prime minister. The party tweeted, “We fondly remember former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, on his birth anniversary. Hailed as the "architect of 21st century India", it was through his farsighted vision that ushered in the IT & telecom revolution in India. Today, we celebrate his legacy.”
