New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at 43 locations in eight districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in connection with its probe into the Coimbatore bomb blast case.
On October 23 there was a blast in an explosive-laden car in front of Kottai Eswaran temple of Coimbatore. The person driving the car, Jamesha Muneer, died in the blast. Initial probe suggests that Mubeen had taken the oath of allegiance to the Islamic State and was to carry out suicide attacks with the intention to cause extensive damage to symbols and monuments of a particular religious faith.
The NIA officials said searches were conducted at 43 locations across Chennai, Coimbatore, Thiruvallur, Thiruppur, Nilgiris, Chengalpatu, Kanchipuram and Nagapattinam of Tamil Nadu and one location in Kerala’s Palakkad.
“During the searches conducted today, digital devices and incriminating documents, were seized from the houses of the suspects,” said a spokesperson of the NIA.
As of now, six accused persons have been arrested in this case.
The arrested accused conspired with Jamesha Mubeen to procure chemicals and other ingredients for the fabrication of Improvised Explosive Devices, including a Vehicle borne IED, from online shopping platforms.
