New Delhi: Days before the scheduled Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra on September 7, National Herald case has come to haunt the grand old party.
Quoting a report in the Indian Express, BJP accused that corruption is in the blood of Congress party.
“It is not that only Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are corrupt. Corruption is flowing in the Nehru family since the beginning,” said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
Indian Express on Saturday reported that Chandra Bhanu Gupta, one of Nehru's party colleagues and UP CM in 1960’s, had also alleged that the newspaper for which the money was raised became the mouthpiece of the Prime Minister and later his daughter Indira Gandhi.
Gupta, four-time Chief Minister of the country, was considered one of the top money collectors of Congress in North India during the Nehru era.
He wrote in his memoir 'Safar Kahin Ruka Nahi, Jhuka Nahi', "I am surprised that the National Herald is now considered the property of the Nehru family. How funds were raised for the National Herald, if a commission of inquiry investigates it, Then there will be a big disclosure. From the very beginning, the policy of the National Herald was to promote Nehru and his daughter Indira Gandhi. For this, the freedom of the press meant attacking anyone who criticised the wrong policies of the Nehru family.''
Patra asked Congress party to put an end to corruption it is committing before launching Bharat Jodo Yatra.
“Jo bhrastachar chhod nahin sakta woh bharat kaise jod sakta hai,” asked Patra.
Patra said that this Bharat Jodo Yatra is nothing but a movement to save Gandhi parivar.
