New Delhi, May 19 (PTI) Domestic cooking gas LPG price was on Thursday hiked by Rs 3.50 per cylinder, the second increase in rates this month.
After this increase, the domestic cylinder now costs over Rs 1000 in almost all the cities throughout the country.
Non-subsidised LPG now costs Rs 1,003 per 14.2-kg cylinder in Delhi and Mumbai, while in Kolkata the domestic LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1029, and in Chennai, it will cost Rs 1018.5 from today, according to a price notification of the state fuel retailers.
The hike comes on the back of a Rs 50 per cylinder increase effected on May 7. Prior to that, prices were increased by the same amount on March 22.
Oil marketing companies sell 14.2 kg cylinders to domestic households at the same price as the open market. The government also offers subsidies on 12 such cylinders to each household in a year. This subsidy is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. LPG cylinder prices are determined by factoring in the international benchmark rate of LPG and the exchange rate of the US dollar and Indian rupee.
