Jammu & Kashmir to host G20 meetings in 2023

It will be the first major international summit to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the State's special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was withdrawn and it was divided into two Union Territories in August 2019

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a committee to oversee the preparation of the G20 Summit in 2023. In order by the secretary to the government, general administration department, the 16- member committee will be headed by Raj Kumar Goyal, Financial Commissioner, Home Department.

 "Given the visit of officials from G20 participating countries and organizations to the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of the Committee of the following officers, to oversee the preparations related to the G20 event in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, " the order said.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Pandurang Kondbarao Pole, J&K DGP Dilbag Singh, SMC commissioner Athar Amir ul Shafi and J&K LCMA vice-chairperson Bashir Ahmad Bhat are also its member

If this event happens, as dates and timetable are yet to be announced, it will be the first major international summit to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the State's special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was withdrawn and it was divided into two Union Territories in August 2019.

India took over the chair of G20 on December 1 and since then scattered G20 meetings are being held in different States and Union Territories of India. It plans to hold around 200 meetings across India.

G20 brings together 19 of the world's leading economies and the European Union, with its members accounting for more than 80% of global GDP, 75% of global trade and 60% of the global population, according to the MEA.

The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
