Ahmedabad: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Vikas Sahay has been appointed in-charge Director General of Police of Gujarat following the retirement of incumbent DGP Ashish Bhatia who was on an extension, said the state home department on Tuesday.
A home department order said Sahay, a 1989-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre currently serving as the DGP (Training) in Gandhinagar, will hold the additional charge of the state DGP.
The senior IPS officer will hold the charge of DGP in addition to his regular role until further orders, said the order.
Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly polls held in December 2022, the Centre had given an extension of eight months to Bhatia, a 1985-batch IPS officer, in May last year.
Bhatia's extended term as DGP came to an end on Tuesday.
