Hamirpur: Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa on Tuesday instructed all administrative and departmental officers to make necessary arrangements ahead of the monsoon season.

Bairwa, who is also chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, presided over a meeting to review preparations for the monsoon season.

At the meeting, he said information regarding disasters should be passed on to the District Emergency Operation Centre on the toll-free 1077 number immediately, followed by a detailed report.

He directed all sub-divisional magistrates, officers of the Public Works, Jal Shakti, Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and Police departments and the Home Guard to mark places prone to floods, landslides, waterlogging and other natural calamities in their respective areas.

Bairwa also issued instructions to station machinery and rescue teams at vulnerable places and directed cleaning drains in urban areas and removing trees that pose a danger.

With the likelihood of water-borne diseases increasing during the rains, the Jal Shakti department has been asked to ensure the cleanliness of sources of all drinking water schemes.
