Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Wednesday swept the polls to Attabira notified area council in Bargarch district and Hindol NAC in Dhenkanal district.
While the polling was held in the two NACs on April 3, the results were declared on Wednesday.
BJD candidates won in 11 of the 12 wards in Atabira NAC while one seat went in favour of Congess. The ruling party's Banamali Bariha defeated his nearest rival Sabita Bhue of Congress by a margin of 4,828 votes to secure the NAC Chairperson post.
While Bariha polled 6,565 votes, 1,737 votes went in favour of Bhue. BJP candidate Laxmi Behera finished third with 1,532 votes.
BJD MLA and former minister Snehagini Chhuria thanked the people of Attabira. She said the BJD would further development work in Atabira.
The BJD also won the Hindol NAC in Dhenkanal district. Of the 16 wards, the BJD candidates won in 11 wards while BJP candidates got five other seats.
BJD candidate Keshab Chandra Pradhan was elected as the Hindol NAC Chairperson by securing 4,347 votes, followed by BJP's Sovagini Pradhan with 3,923 votes and Congress’ Rita Palei with 219 votes.
