New Delhi: All is not well with the Bihar police. A senior police officer’s tweet raised a storm in Bihar’s political and bureaucratic circles.
Bihar’s Inspector General (IG) (Home Guards and Fire Services) Vikas Vaibhav took to social media to accuse his senior officer Shobha Ohatkar of abusing him. Ohatkar is a 1990-batch IPS officer and is posted as Director General of Home Guards and Fire Services.
"I was given charge of IG Home Guards and Fire Services on October 18, 2022, and ever since then, I have been trying my level best to discharge my duty at my new assignment. I am unnecessarily being abused daily by DG madam (recorded too). I am completely heartbroken today," Vaibhav tweeted but deleted it immediately.
However, it was picked up by lakhs of followers on Twitter and went viral.
Ohatkar and Vaibhav have not commented in the local media any further.
But Vaibhav has posted another cryptic tweet hinting at resigning from service.

Vaibhav is the key person behind the voluntary movement “Let's Inspire Bihar” which works to promote education, egalitarianism and entrepreneurship in the state.
Vaibhav is also a recipient of the Satyendra K Dubey award which is given to any alumnus of IIT who has distinguished himself by displaying the highest professional integrity in upholding human values. He is an alumnus of IIT, Kanpur.
Vaibhav is likely to take up the issue with Bihar police chief RS Bhatti who was his Inspector General when he was posted as Superintendent of police in Rohtas district in the state.
“Vaibhav is well-mannered and very well respected within the police fraternity due to his impeccable integrity and strong work ethics and his accusations need to be taken very seriously by the authorities in the state,” said a senior officer who knows Vaibhav well.
Vaibhav has served in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also and was part of the team that interrogated key Indian Mujahideen operative, Yasin Bhatkal.
“In fact, so impressed was Sharad Kumar, his then DG in NIA, with Vaibhav’s work that he wanted to bring him back to the agency. He offered to get his cooling off period waived off too but Vaibhav wanted to stay back in Patna due to personal reasons,” said another source.
Vaibhav almost got into the Intelligence Bureau, the premier police organisation of the country, too but things didn’t materialise later.
Political parties have offered him tickets to fight elections too but Vaibhav has so far declined to join politics. Sources said Vaibhav was offered a ticket to fight Lok Sabha elections in 2019 by a national party but he didn’t want to leave service at that juncture.
