New Delhi: A story inspired by a columnist’s turn of phrase became a piece of viral news in no time after a British Newspaper tracked whether Prime Minister Liz Truss could stay in power longer than the shelf life of Lettuce.
The British Prime Minister Liz Truss’s popularity waned as did that of the ball of lettuce.
The lettuce which cost only 68 cents became a symbol of Truss’s failing power as The Daily Star, a British tabloid uploaded a post on October 14th asking people in a live video “Will Liz Truss outlast this lettuce?”
This post attracted millions of eyes and went viral in no time.
The Economist’s post on October 11th observed that her hold on power amounted to seven days, or “about the shelf-life of a lettuce,” between the commencement of her term and the 10 days of mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, served as the basis for the lettuce joke.
But apparently, lettuce emerged as the winner after the news of Ms Liz Truss’s resignation came out on Thursday.
Additionally, around 20,000 people watched live as someone turned a picture of Ms Truss face-down on the table. Colourful lights whirled around it and a recording of “God Save the King” played on a loop.
