New Delhi: Miracles of people coming out alive from the rubbles continue even 120 hours after the deadliest earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on early Monday. But at the same time, the chances of finding survivors are getting fewer with each passing minute.
The deadliest quake of the century has killed around 24,000 people so far in both countries.
Turkey death toll
The death toll rose to 20,318 with more than 80,000 thousand wounded from Monday's devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye, the country's disaster agency said Friday.
More than 125,000 search and rescue personnel are currently working in the field, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
A total of 80,000 people were evacuated from quake-hit regions, AFAD said in a statement.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centred in Kahramanmaras province, were felt Monday by 13 million people across 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye and Sanliurfa.
Syria death toll
More than 3,550 people have died so far in Syria due to twin quakes.
In the government-controlled areas, 1,387 people have died so far.
The death toll from the earthquake in northwestern Syria has risen to more than 2,166 deaths and 2,950 injuries.
