New Delhi: At least seven Islamic State or Daesh terror militant groups were killed and seven others arrested in a series of security operations carried out by the Taliban security forces in Afghanistan.
“Today an operation was carried out in the Qalacha and Shuhada-e-Salehin areas of Kabul city against the hideouts of Daesh (IS) members, seven Daesh members were killed and 7 others were captured alive,” Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in a Twitter.
“Similarly, 2 Daesh members were captured alive in Nimroz province (southeast),” he added.
The Taliban have intensified their operations against the Islamic State in Afghanistan after the latter carried out a series of attacks across the country in recent months.
The last attack took place on Jan. 1, when an IS suicide bomber entered the military area of the Kabul airport and detonated himself, causing several deaths and injuries.
Last month the Islamic State claimed an attack on a Kabul Hotel, frequented by Chinese citizens in Kabul, injuring 18 people, while all three attackers were killed.
Islamic State or IS Khorasan has taken responsibility for several deadly terrorist attacks, most of which targeted civilians, in the past several months in Afghanistan.
