New Delhi: A US-based robotic engineers’ company has invented a pair of shoes which can increase the speed of those wearing it by 250%.
Moonwalkers, the shoes that the company has launched are battery-powered. While they look like skates, they are actually powered with Artificial Intelligence and an algorithm which helps the wearer move normally without any hand control.
Shift Robotics, the company which invented the 'Moonwalkers' has added a strap-on design which allows them to be used with any pair of shoes.
Shift Robotics has released a press release in which Xunjie Zang, the founder and CEO of the company said "Moonwalkers are not skates. They're shoes. The world's fastest shoes actually. You don't skate in them. You walk. You don't have to learn how to use them, the shoes learn from you".
According to Gizmodo, these shoes come with eight polyurethane wheels, just like skates do. But the difference lies in the size of the wheels. The ones installed in the shoes are much smaller in size and are not fit in one single line. Additionally, the Moonwalkers are powered by a 300-watt electric motor.
The sensors in the shoes help in monitoring the wearer's walk and in turn, the algorithm adjusts the power of the motors which increases or decreases the speed.
Furthermore, Gizmodo stated that the company's claim that the shoes increase the speed by 250% is based on the analysis of the average walking speed of people which is around 2.5-4mph
The Moonwalkers also have a feature to walk on stairs. This feature locks the wheels thus preventing them from rolling freely. Additionally, these shoes are powered with a brake system which is about two feet on dry roads.
According to The New York Post, a Kickstarter campaign started on Monday with the sale of the Moonwalkers. They cost $1,399 (Rs 1,15,332), and deliveries are anticipated to start in March 2023.
