New Delhi: Four Indians and three Pakistanis citizens are among sixteen people dead and nine others injured in a blaze that happened in the Al-Ras residential area, one of the oldest parts of Dubai.
Hundreds of migrant workers and traders mostly from Asia live in the area. According to local media reports, the fire broke out on the fourth floor of the five-storey building.
Dubai Civil Defence said it was caused by a lack of compliance with building security and safety requirements. Dubai Civil Defence told the UAE newspaper The National that an investigation into the deadly blaze was underway.
BBC quoting Salinga Gudu, an Indian national, said that his brother Gudu Saliyakoondu, a watchman from India's Tamil Nadu state, had died trying to save residents inside of the building.
