What is the auspicious time to tie Rakhi?

Raksha Bandhan is the celebration of love between brothers and sisters. In simple words, Raksha means to 'protect' and Bandhan means 'bond.' It's a festival of protection of the bond between brother and sister, also known as Rakhi.

Rakhi is celebrated in India with much enthusiasm among siblings cherishing the eternal bond of love.

This year the festival of Rakhi is falling on two dates i.e. August 11 and 12, as per the Hindu calendar.

The festival of Rakhi is celebrated on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Shravan month which is also known as Shravan Poornima or Kjari Poonam. In the month of Shravan, this year the full moon date of Shukla Paksha will start at 10.38 am on Thursday, August 11. Purnima Tithi will last till 7:05 am on Friday, August 12.

As per the astrologers. the auspicious time will be impaired by Bhadra, a time considered inauspicious for tying the sacred thread. Hence, rakhi should only be tied after 5:40 pm.

Bhadra Time starts at 10:38 am on Thursday, August 11 and the time ends at 08:51 pm on the same day.

From 8:51 pm to 9:13 pm on August 11, the Pradosh Kaal will start which is the best Muharat to tie the Rakhi.

As Rakhi is falling on two days, it can also be celebrated on August 12 as there is Purnima Tithi. Hence, Rakhi can be tied at any time on that day too. 

On August 12, Friday the Rakhi can be tied from 11:59 am to 12:52 pm which is an Abhijeet Muhurat, or from 12:25 pm to 02:05 pm which is Shubh Choghadiya. This two Muhurat are considered highly auspicious.
